Producing Television for the Internet

heyelaine:

An interesting conversation about web content.  I’m not in it, but I’m mentioned in it, and I think that’s neat.

Great discussion about something I’m interested and involved in.

Because sometimes I talk about music I listen to here…

here are some things I’ve been listening to:

  • Ted Leo, lots of Ted Leo. I took a train into the city last week and listened to The Brutalist Bricks on the way in. It was surprisingly peaceful.
  • Rediscovered how much I like Jukebox the Ghost’s first album, Let Live and Let Ghosts. Jukebox the Ghost produces good music without taking themselves too seriously.
  • And I rediscovered Ben Folds Five’s Whatever and Ever Amen, the album I usually say is my favorite album of all time, but I haven’t listened to as a whole in a while.
  • I listened to The Suburbs (Arcade Fire) outside on a very hot day while editing a script I’m working on and it just felt perfect.
  • fun.’s cover of “Call Me Maybe.” So shoot me.

That’s what I’ve been listening to in the past week or so.

Other artists of late!

  • Andrew Jackson Jihad (folk punk!)
  • Elvis Costello (why not!)
  • The New Pornographers (so pretty!)
  • Simon & Garfunkel (more rediscovery!)

EDIT: Right after I finished listening to The Brutalist Bricks, I finished my train ride listening to Vince Guaraldi Trio’s Charlie Brown Christmas scores. Sorry.

Hey improvisers! Reblog with your MBTI type!

I’m curious to see what types improv attracts. I just like reading about these things.

I, for one, am an INTJ.

spolikeluzhate:

Very nice article and video on my improv group, The Stepfathers. We perform every Friday at 9pm,  at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre, NYC and I am grateful for this.

Well-deserved praise for one of the most influential teams at the theatre.

Bless the Stepfathers.

New single-topic blog collaboration: Things That Sound Like Mountain Goats Lyrics

A friend of mine and I are slowly compiling strings of words from other media whose structure is similar to lyrics written by John Darnielle.

So if you like the Mountain Goats you might like this.

Splitsider | How Realistic Are Our Sitcom Workplaces?

coffeeshortage:

Currently writing a workplace sitcom based on a company my friends work for. Just their descriptions of their office sound like a sitcom, so it was a no-brainer for me to want to write about it.

My webseries is a workplace sitcom! I’m sure there are inconsistencies, but I love the suspension of disbelief that happens in television.

Give me a second to be sentimental about improv:

I received the email saying I received the UCB Diversity scholarship on March 2nd around 11 pm. I teared up a little bit reading it. I had a class picked out in about an hour.

I stayed up late that night, because I don’t think my new roommate had moved in yet and I was too overjoyed to sleep. I played the ukelele, I ate some chocolate, and I watched two or three episodes of The Chris Gethard Show. I started my first UCB class on March 11th.

(I anxiously await a class of the next level that fits into my schedule.)

Here’s a short version of this thing that I know many UCB folks say: I feel safe with UCB. I feel accepted. I’ve found a great group of friends to improvise with, great mentors and teachers. I like it. I feel like I belong here— and I usually feel like an outsider.

There. I said it in as little words as possible and without getting stupidly sentimental.
